Florida Scholarship Applications

It’s that time of year again… and it’s actually way earlier this year which looks like it will be a good thing. Currently, SUFS is allowing applications for scholarship for new and renewals students beginning this Saturday, February 1, 2025. Every year they have the issue where they are trying to wrap up with application processing in time for parents to prepare for they year and get funding for the first quarter. This earlier timeline will allow for any hiccups in the process to not affect parents come funding time - at least that is the hope. The new CEO this year seems to be on top of smoothing out all issues and is actually listening to parents regarding issues. It’s looking like next year is going to be even smoother than this year.

Things you need to know before you fill out the application.

  • If you have a child with a disability, learning or health, check the Unique Abilities scholarship to see if your student qualifies. Tutors focused on working with learning disabilities will not be approved under the Personalized Education Plan scholarship (home education registered through the state and not the county.) UA students can be homeschooled or private schooled or registered with an umbrella school.

  • Scholarship students cannot attend public school in any capacity - there is supposedly a way to pay for an individual class but most people struggle to get that approved as schools do not have a system in place to charge.

  • You need to have some proof of residency documents in YOUR name not your spouses. Make sure you have those before you apply or it can be a nightmare. I have another blog article that goes in depth into what you need for those.

  • Rising kindergarteners need to have their birth certificate, so make sure to find that before you get started.

  • There are some questions you can answer regarding your financials but that is a choice. It does give you priority but this year that didn’t keep anyone from being accepted.

The application is rather easy and doesn’t take long if you gather all of your documents. Make sure to apply as soon as possible as it will increase your chances of being accepted. For more information check out www.stepupforstudents.org.
